ICAR-KVK organizes Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting

 

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim, Ranipool organized Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting 2016-17 on  December 21, 2016 at Conference Hall of KVK East Sikkim, Ranipool. The meeting was chaired by the Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong. More than 21 numbers of statutory SAC members from different line Departments as ICAR-NRC Orchid, CAE&PHT, FS&ADD, SAMETI, Department of AHLF&VS, Govt. of Sikkim, NABARD, Gangtok, AIR, Gangtok, Programme Co-ordinators, KVK West Sikkim, SMSs’ KVK North and South Sikkim and Scientists from ICAR-NOFRI attended the meeting.

The Chairman of the programme Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI welcomed all the members of SAC from different line departments. In his welcome address he stressed upon reducing the gap between the research organization developing new technology and its implementation in the farmers field. He urged the scientific community to disseminate the successful technology must be assessed at farmers’ field to suit the requirements at the different altitudes. The Chairman stressed for undertaking work on ginger with high content of oleoresin and ginger oil contents for high market value. Regarding soil health parameters, he suggested that before implementation of any trial analyses of the soil of that particular village should be done on grid basis. The Chairman stressed on quality analysis of value added products of Chow- Chow and ginger.

The Programme Coordinator (I/c), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr. Raghavendra Singh and SAC Member Secretary presented the Action Taken Report of the previous SAC meeting held in 2015. The Progress Report of 2016-17 and Action Plan for 2017-18 were presented individually by respected Subject Matter Specialists of KVK, East Sikkim.

Dr. R.P. Mishra, Dean I/c, CAE & PHT, CAU, Ranipool suggested to collaborate the implementations regarding farm machinery and improved agricultural tools.

Dr. N. Rai, Director, Dept. of Animal Husbandry, Livestock Fisheries & Veterinary Science, Govt. of Sikkim assured for more number of collaborative activities particularly in animal and livestock production with the KVK, East Sikkim.

Mr. T. R. Ganesh Kumar, DGM, NABARD appreciated the activities of KVK, East Sikkim and explained about their funding pattern for implementation of different agricultural activities in farmers’ field. He also detailed the benefits of Kisan Credit Card.

Dr. Ram Pal, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NRC Orchid suggested to integrate the floriculture based farming system to generate more income for livelihood improvement as orchid can be grown on a small piece of unused agriculture land.

All the members gave constructive suggestions for the development and livelihood security of the farming community in the state. Progressive farmer members from different villages of East Sikkim appreciated the efforts of ICAR and KVK, East Sikkim for their enduring efforts for the farming community of the state.

The Chairman of the Committee appreciated the work done by the KVK, East Sikkim and called for more close linkages with the line departments to reach the farmers doorstep. In his closing remarks, he strongly advocated upon organic seed production to meet the seed requirement of the state.
