ICAR-KVK Churachandpur launched Capacity Building and Distribution programme.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Churachandpur, ICAR Manipur Centre launched Capacity Building and Distribution programme onScientific cultivation of improved varieties of rice under rainfed condition for doubling farmers’ income” at training hall, KVK Churachandpur, Pearsonmun on collaboration with Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Rachi, Jarkhand at Training hall, KVK Churachandpur, Pearsonmun on June 17, 2019. The program was organized with a view to strengthen the farmers to produce their own seed through community participatory approach.

Total of 52 nos of progressive farmers from different villages of Churachandpur district participated the programme. Rice, soybean and groundnut were distributed to the farmers. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, patronage of Dr. Narendra Prakash, Director, ICAR for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya.

Gracing the occasion Dr. S. Roma Devi Senior Scientists & Head, KVK Churachandpur welcome the gathering and stressed the farming community to undertake quality seed production and also encouraged to develop agri-prenurial ability towards the seed production so that the farmers can double income.

Dr. Deepak Singh, Senior Scientists & Head, KVK Chandel stressed on the importance of quality seed production in the state. He encouraged the farmers to undertake production of quality seed of rice and retain for two to three years to become self-dependent in seed which can also uplift livelihood.

Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Scientists, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi, Jarkhand detailed the characteristics of improved rice varieties which are resistant from different diseases and pests. He urged the farming community to adopt scientific cultivation practices and strengthened the participatory quality seed production in the system.

Sh. S. Gunamani Singh, SMS (Plant Breeding), KVK Imphal West explained package and practices of quality seed production of rice. He also briefed on the maintenance of improved rice variety under post and pre harvest condition.

Dr. K. Rabi Singh, SMS (Plant Breeding), KVK Tamenglong briefed on the quality seed production of soybean which can empower the farming community through input support system and also said that farmers will take it as agribusiness for improvement of livelihood status of the farmer.

The programme ended with vote of thanks from Sh. Ph. Chandramani Singh, SMS (Horticulture). Miss. Manngaikim, Programme assistant co ordinated the programme. All the staffs of ICAR-KVK Churachandpur actively involved for smooth conduction the programme.
