ICAR-DMAPR Celebrated 23rd Foundation Day

The  23rd  Foundation  day  of  the  ICAR-Directorate  of  Medicinal  and  Aromatic  Plants Research (DMAPR) was celebrated on 24th November, 2014. Dr. Pawan Kumar Agrawal, Assistant Director-General (NASF), ICAR was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Agrawal, in his address, said there is need for enhancing the quality of raw drugs of MAPs through appropriate good agricultural practices (GAP). He emphasised the need to move from bulk products to products with precise information regarding nutrients, active ingredients, value addition, storage and delivery system. There is also need to have ‘per crop more purposes’ to utilize the parts of medicinal plants for different purposes.

Dr. N.C. Patel, Vice-Chancellor of Anand Agricultural University (AAU), Anand, in his Presidential Address emphasised upon the need for developing a linkage between MAP growers, processors and end users.  He opined the need for mechanization and entrepreneurship in MAPs cultivation for enhanced productivity.

Dr. K.C. Dalal, Former Director, NRCMAP, Anand, in his address, appreciated the institution’s research work and suggested the need for eco friendly technologies for the medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) cultivation.

Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Director, ICAR-DMAPR, Anand welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. He also presented the brief achievements, growth and progress of the Directorate.

Six progressive medicinal plant growers from the tribal parts of Panchamahal district of Gujarat were felicitated on this occasion.

Heads and Professors of various departments from Anand Agricultural University, Anand and Sardar  Patel  University,  Vallabh  Vidyanagar,  Heads  of  ICAR organisations  located  in Gujarat, scientists and staff of DMAPR, Anand, the print and visual media were present on this occasion.

Dr. R. Nagaraja Reddy, Scientist, ICAR-DMAPR proposed the vote of thanks.
