Indian Agricultural University Association (IAUA) sponsored two-day University Vice Chancellors' Meet as Brainstorming session on Challenges Before NARS in National Food Production was organized at CIFE, Mumbai during 11-12 July 2014. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Abdul Sattar, Hon' Min. for Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries, Govt. of Maharashtra. Dr. W. S. Lakra, Director, CIFE welcomed the gathering by introducing the necessity of such programmes to mitigate the challenges faced by National Agricultural Research and Educational System. The Guest of Honour, Prof. S. N. Puri, (Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal) highlighted the need for additional grain production. He stressed upon challenge to bridge the gap between scientists and farmers to boost productivity and diversification of crops. The Chief Guest, Hon' Minister gave the status of fish production and export of Indian Fisheries and highlighted the need for creating additional livelihood for freshwater and marine fishers. He also promised to support CIFE in providing wet lab facilities for research work in and around Mumbai. In his presidential address, Dr. A. K. Srivastava, Director, NDRI, Karnal, emphasized on the Precision Agriculture and Protective Agriculture. He also gave details on the Post Harvest losses in agriculture produce and emphasized on the need to develop the technology to minimize the losses.
