KVK Ri-Bhoi Organised Field Day on HYV oF Maize (VAR. RCM-1-3)
A field day on HYV of Maize (var. RCM-1-3) was organised by KVK Ri-Bhoi on 8th September 2016 at Umeit village. The main objective of the programme was to showcase the success of performance of Maize var. RCM-1-3 in farmer’s field. The programme was attended by 25 farmers from the village and nearby village. Farmers were very happy seeing the performance of maize variety as the cob length and cob size was very good as compared to local variety of Maize. The grain yield is expected to be higher as compared to local variety of maize. There was also a group discussion among the Programme Coordinator, SMSs, SRF and farmers in order to clarify the doubts of the farmers. PC, KVK Ri-Bhoi has briefed the farmers about the advantages of mulching, cropping system, growing of legumes and he also helped the farmers to identify the weeds like Eupatorium, Ambrosia etc which are available in their fields and which can act as mulch in their field to conserve soil & moisture, control weeds, supply nutrients and act as insect repellent. The farmers from neighbouring areas were very much motivated by the performance and they came forward seeking for seeds of maize variety for the next season.
