Field Day on ‘Winter Season Vegetable Crops’

A Field Day on ‘Winter Vegetable Crops’ was organized on the 28th January, 2021 by Horticulture Division under the project AICRP on Vegetable crops. The field day showcased of different germplasms and technologies of winter vegetable crops. Dr. V.K. Verma showcased the farmers to different different crop germplasm and improved varieties of winter season vegetables conserved in the Horticulture Farm. Farmers were demonstrated on nursery bed preparation, sowing, transplanting, irrigation, nutrition and plant protection measures of various winter vegetable crops. Similarly, improved production technology of winter vegetables under open and protected cultivation were also demonstrated to farmers. A successful technology on nursery management of fruit and production system such as meadow orcharding and citrus orchard management were showcased and demonstrated to farmers by Dr. H. Rymbai. About 40 farmers of Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya participated in this field day and visited the demonstration fields. Seeds of different winter vegetable crops, viz., tomato (250 g), capsicum (50 g), cucumber (100 g), chill (70 g) and cabbage (50 g) were distributed to farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. V.K. Verma (Senior Scient & Head) and Dr. H. Rymbai (Scientist), Horticulture Division, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
