Farmer’s Field Day on Scientific Livestock Farming at Khweng Village

A farmer’s field day was organised by Livestock Production Division, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Ri-Bhoi on 20th January, 2016 at Khweng village, Ri-Bhoi district under Tribal sub Plan. The theme of the programme was Scientific Livestock Rearing to Enhance Livelihood and Nutritional Security of Tribal Farmers with aim to apprise the tribal farmers about scientific livestock and poultry rearing.

A total of 60 farmers participated in the programme. Importance of raising awareness on livestock and poultry rearing was elaborated and medicines of various diseases and disorders were distributed among farmers to raise their livestock and poultry farming. ICAR scientists guided the farmers on “health care measures, prevention of diseases, increasing the flock/drove size, techniques of raising livestock and poultry at the same time and sanitation and hygienic measurements” at the farmer’s field. Discussions were also made on prevention of different diseases in livestock and poultry. Farmers showed interest in improving healthy livestock farming.

Scientist Farmer’s interaction

The feedback from farmers was encouraging. A scientist-farmer interaction was held in which the farmer’s queries were answered by the scientists. Medicines and mineral supplements were provided to farmers after the programme.
