Farmers’ First Programme launched by Hon’bleUnion Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam on 8th November, 2016.
Shri Sudarshan Bhagat, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, visited ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam on 8th November 2016. During the visit, the Hon’ble Minister launched the Farmers First Programme of ICAR Research Complex which is to be implemented in Marngar and Sarikuchi cluster of Ri-Bhoi District. In his address, he applauded the initiative of Farmers First Programme and expressed that direct communication between scientists and farmers will yield maximum benefit to the farmers. Sh. Vineet Kumar Verma, Director, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India and Sh. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, PS to MoS have accompanied the Hon’ble Minister. Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, briefed on recent achievements and activities of the institute. Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Principal Investigator, Farmers First Programme, introduced the concept of the programme. Dr. B.C. Deka, Director, ATARI, Zone III, also presented a brief remark on the flagship programmes of ATARI ICAR initiative for doubling the income of the farmers. The Dignitaries visited different farms such as Murrah Buffalo Farming System, Piggery farm and meat processing unit of ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. A.K. Tripathi, PI, Farmers’ First programme and Head, Division of Social Sciences. All the staffs of ICAR RC for NEH region, Umiam and farmers from Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya attended the event.
