Farmers’ Awareness and Inputs Distribution under KKA in Aspirational District Namsai

A day long programme on awareness cum input distribution for doubling income of farmers was organized by KVK Namsai. The theme of the programme was importance of scientific practices on agriculture & allied subjects and benefits of farmer friendly Schemes sponsored by both central Govt. and Govt of Arunachal Pradesh in changing climatic scenario. During the programme, 10 Jalkund for water harvesting structure, 10 Sprayer, bio-pesticides, bio fertilizer, waste decomposer, 473 soil health card and 7000 lemon grass sapling were distributed among the farmers. Inputs were sponsored by ICAR RC NEH Region AP Centre Basar, Arunachal Pradesh. In his welcome address, Dr. H. Kalita, Principle Scientist and Joint Director, ICAR RC NEH Region AP Centre Basar highlights the issue of climatic change and importance of Jalkund as water harvesting structure during water scarcity period. Dr. KK Baruah, Principle Scientist and Head, Animal Production Division, ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya explained the effect of climate change on farm animal reproduction and its control measures through hormonal intervention. DVO cum District Planning Officer Dr. Keshav Sharmah also spoke on upgrading of dairy animal, development of cluster for dairy farming and milk processing to improve milk production potential of dairy animals and farmers income of Namsai district. In his speech, Guest of honour Shri Gyanendra Mani, General Manager, NABARD, Itanagar spoke about different farmers’ friendly scheme sponsored by Govt. of India and Govt of Arunachal Pradesh. Shri Gyanendra Mani extensively talk on crop and livestock insurance, Krishi Samooh Yojna, use of solar light in agriculture, starting agri-clinic and agri-business by the unemployed youth. Guest of honour Shri R.K. Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Namsai also encourage by his speech to farmers and rural youth to come forward to adopt scientific practices of agriculture and start self business to become self employed and give employment to others. Col. Vikram Narwade, Madras regiment, Gunanagar camp, Chongkham explained the slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan and the importance of both elements for the country. Col. Ivan Singh, Assam rifles, Lathao camp, Namsai shared his experience on successful implementation of integrated farming system in Wardha district of Maharashtra. In his speech, Chief guest Dr. Narendra Prakash, Director, ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya elucidated the role of new techniques to improve the production of agri & horticultural crops as well as livestock of Namsai district. Dr. Narendra Prakash, Director, ICAR RC NEH Region appreciated the work of KVK Namsai and expressed his desire to cooperate with farmers of Aspirational district Namsai in coming future. During the programme Dr. Santosh Kumar, SMS, KVK Namsai presented the progress report of KKA. Dr. M. Kanwat, Sr. Sci. and Head, KVK, Namsai apprised and thanks the chief guest and other guests about the lectures delivered, activities performed and input distribution. Total 113 farmers were participated in awareness programme including 10 Gaon Bura of selected village under KKA.
