KVK Ri-Bhoi Organised Field Day on SRI Paddy (VAR. RCM-10)
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam organised a Field day on SRI Paddy at Kyrdem village on 7th November 2016 under NICRA Project. The Programme was conducted to show the Performance of Paddy var. RCM-10 under System of Rice Intensification. SRI Method of crop cultivation has many beneficial results which were showcased to the farmer in the field of Mrs. Valarie Maring of Kyrdem. SMS, Agronomy and SRF (NICRA) briefed the neighbouring farmers about the cultivation packages of SRI. The farmer were very much satisfied by observing the paddy variety as it was dwarf nature, maximum no. of panicles, panicles length, short duration as compared to local variety (Mandri, Laispah, Manipur, Panah). About 30 farmers of Kyrdem as well as neighbouring village participated in the programme. Also many farmers came forward asking for seeds and training for SRI cultivation for the coming season. The farmers are expected to harvest more than double yield (40-45 q/ha) under SRI method with HYV as compared to traditional method of cultivation and variety (20-25 q/ha).
