Empowerment of women in agriculture by adopting improved packages & practices of farming including livestock rearing

 

A three days training cum awareness programme on “Empowerment of women in agriculture by adopting improved packages & practices of farming including livestock rearing” from 20th - 22nd October, 2016under Collaborative Project on “Gender Knowledge System in Agriculture” was successfully completed with participation of 23 women farmers from 11 villages of Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi hills districts. During the programme, various lectures on the importance of integrated farming system approach and its economics, improved technology of horticultural crops and its post harvest management, adopting improved practices for rearing livestock especially pig and poultry in the context of livelihood improvement in Meghalaya condition and the importance of conservation and utilization of indigenous medicinal plants were delivered. Besides field visits to various farms of livestock, horticulture, integrated farming system and agroforestry models for hands on training was conducted. Visited NBPGR for talk on importance on conservation and protection of varieties of plant/crops. The participants were distributed improved varieties of piglets (2 piglet/participants) or chicks (50 chicks/participants) for rearing. Each was given 5 kg sample of formulated feed of pig and poultry and1 kg mineral mixture to start and follow the scientific feeding practice.
