Development of Agri-Entrepreneurship in NEH Region: A way for doubling the farmer’s income- Short Course Organized by ICAR Nagaland Centre Medziphema
ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema organized a ten days short course sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on “Development of Agri-Entrepreneurship in NEH Region: A way for doubling the farmers income” from 27th November to 6th December, 2018. Seventeen participants (Scientist, Assistant Professor and Subject Matter Specialist) from Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir participated in the training programme. During this training programme, various external resource persons from the field of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, APEDA, Spice Board etc. delivered the lecture on their respective fields. In the training programme, various topics for entrepreneurship development like certification of good quality of seed/planting materials, hitech nursery, biofertilizer production, export promotion of spices and horticulture crop, organic cultivation of fruits, year round production of vegetables, IFS model development for more profitability, pig farming, backyard poultry farming, fish farming and secondary agriculture like mushroom cultivation and value addition were organised. Also, farm visit, practical demonstration, hands on training etc. were demonstrated to the participants to give them the first hand information regarding the improved packages of practices/technologies of agriculture and allied subject for improving the farmer income and development of entrepreneurship.
Further, during the valedictory function on 06th December 2018, Dr. Rajesha G, course coordinator presented the summary of ten days programme and highlighted different activities organized during the training programme.
Dr. Capt. G. D. Rao, Dean College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, CAU, Jaukie and chief guest on the occasion appreciated the course coordinators in particulars and ICAR Nagaland Centre in general for organizing such training programme in keeping the need of the present hours. He further stated that NEH Region is rich in biodiversity and natural resource but due to lack of infrastructure and basic facilities, the agricultural sector has not developed much in this region on entrepreneurship level. Dr. Rao laid importance on development of agriculture in NEH by laying more emphasis on horticulture, spices and livestock which is very important component in hill farming. Dr. Mahak Singh, course coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
