Training cum Awareness Programme on “Crop and Livestock Intervention for Sustainable Farming System and Livelihood Improvement” held at ICAR, NEH Region Umiam.

 

To commemorate the visionary programme of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” (My village, My pride),a three days Training cum Awareness Programme on “Crop and livestock Intervention for Sustainable Farming System and Livelihood Improvement” was inaugurated today (5th-  7th) April, 2016 at ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The programme was coordinated by Team VI (Dr. Sandip Patra Scientist Crop Protection Division, Dr R.K Sanjukta Scientist Animal Health Division, Dr B. Bhattacharjee Senior Scientist Division of Biotechnology, Dr A.K. Jha Senior Scientist Division of Horticulture and Dr Rajesh Kumar Senior Scientist Division of Agronomy) of ICAR Complex, Umiam under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP).

A total of 50 farmers from the Ri- Bhoi District of Meghalaya participated in the programme. The three days programme will elaborate on sustainable practice of agriculture and livelihood improvement. The programme started with the welcome address by Dr.A.K Jha, Team Leader of group VI Senior Scientist Division of Horticulture, ICAR Complex, Umiam. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the need of improved crop production techniques and role of livestock based integrated farming system in the region.

The three days training will train the farmers on the various aspects of farming hands on training and practical demonstrations are a major part of the training programme. There will be series of scientific presentations during the training.  A scientists and farmer’s interaction programme is a major part of the programme were the queries of the farmers will be answered by the scientist. The training assures that the farmers get the best out of it and the institute will provide with every possible help to popularize the Agriculture and allied activities in NEH region.
