Training programme on “Establishment of Nursery and Nursery Management on Cole Crops” was conducted by KVK, Anjaw.
Vegetables are usually propagated either by seed or vegetative means. Hence to procure uniform, vigorous and healthy seedlings, establishment of a nursery is a must. Keeping this in mind, a one day training programme on “Establishment of Nursery and Nursery Management on Cole Crops” was conducted by KVK, Anjaw on 12th November 2016 at Govt. Sec. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Supliang village in Anjaw district. Altogether, 53 (rural youths) attended the training programme. Mr. Senpon Ngomle, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), welcomed the participants and briefed the gathering about the importance of organizing this training.Ms Rebecca Eko, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), coordinator of the training programme gave a detailed power point presentation on the importance of nursery and its management, site selection, soil treatments, seed treatment, type of nursery bed preparations, different sowing methods and essential operations in nursery raising and its aftercare. Shealso encouraged the rural youths to practice vegetable farming and become self-reliant. Later on Ms. Marme Chiram, Head master of the school mentioned that, it was the first time, such a training was conducted in the school and appreciated the efforts of KVK officials. She also requested that, more such trainings be conducted in the near future which will be helpful for the students and the village rural youths. At the end of the training, KVK, Anjaw distributed quality vegetable seedlings to the farmers.
