State Level Farmers Fair cum Exhibition inaugurated by Shri Y. Joykumar Singh, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur at ICAR Manipur Centre

Two days Farmers Fair cum Exhibition( 27th &28th March 2017)  organised by ICAR Manipur Centre with its KVKs sponsored by Tribal Sub Plan  was inaugurated by Shri Y. Joykumar Singh, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of  Manipur as Chief  Guest in presence of Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central Agriculture University and Dr.C.A. Srinivasamurthy , Director of Research , Central Agriculture University as Guests of Honour and  Dr. N. Prakash,Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre as President at ICAR Complex, Lamphelpat.

In his inaugural address, Shri Y. Joykumar Singh stated that Manipur is an agricultural based State and has higher potential than Sikkim in organic farming which is popular internationally. Agriculture in Manipur is a primary sector and it should be carried out in an organised way. He assured that, He would try to bring up the agricultural sector in the State by the new Govt. of Manipur and also extend all possible help in formulation of agricultural programmes of this state in consultation with ICAR and CAU.

Prof. M. Premjit Singh as Guest of Honour  stated that Shri Narendra Modiji, Prime Minister of India emphasised on three things : a) Second Green Revolution without health hazard, (b) NE states  to boost up production in an organic way as these states are known as an organic  hub and (c) agro-based industries be increased to double  the  source of farmers’ income. To double the farmers income, it is necessary to improve irrigation system by way of micro-irrigation, quality seeds and planting materials, integrated farming system and value addition. Dr.C.A. Srinivasamurthy also supplemented to produce quality seed in participatory mode of scientists and farmers to reduce the cost of crop production. He also emphasised that farmers should conserve water in rainy season for irrigation of Rabi crops for multiple cropping system in Manipur.

In his presidential address, Dr. N. Prakash stated that technologies developed by scientists should be disseminated to farmers through front line demonstrations and trainings of KVKs. Fish farmers should adopt scientific fish farming to double their income.

Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh,Principal Scientist(Seed Technology),ICAR Manipur Centre delivered welcome and key note address and Shri Kh. Hera Singh,SMS(Ag.Engg.) pronounced vote of thanks.

More than 300 farmers from Imphal West, Chandel, Churchanpur, Ukhrul and Tamenglong attended the function. Critical inputs were also distributed to selected farmers including one power tiller to a self help group. There are 18 stalls where agricultural exhibits weredisplayed by KVKs and their adopted farmers.
