Honorable Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri LAL THANHAWLA inaugurated the ICAR buildings and one Day Awareness Programme on "Climate Change: Agriculture Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies in Mizoram" at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib here today. He inaugurated the Scientist Home, type-IV quarters, Seed Processing Unit and Mushroom Demonstration Unit and visited the exhibition stall of ICAR Mizoram Centre. Honorable Chief Minister of Mizoram was accompanied by Shri P.C. Zoram Sangliana, Chairman (MIFCO) and MLA (Kolasib Constituency), Shri Hmingdailova Khiangte, MLA (Tuirial Constituency), Shri Zarzosanga, Deputy Commissioner, Kolasib District, Mizoram and Shri Zion Lalremruata, General Secretary, AMFU, Aizawl, Mizoram.
He also inaugurated a one day awareness programme on "Climate Change: Agriculture Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies in Mizoram" under National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project. Dr. S.B. Singh, Joint Director, ICAR, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, Mizoram had paid a warm welcome to all dignitaries and presented the overall achievements of ICAR Mizoram Centre. He had emphasized the role of indigenous varieties of crops in combating climate change and seeks the attention of Chief Minister for conservation by formation of State Seed Committee. Shri P.C. Zoram Sangliana, Chairman (MIFCO) and MLA (Kolasib Constituency), Shri Hmingdailova Khiangte, MLA (Tuirial Constituency), Shri Zarzosanga, Deputy Commissioner, Kolasib District, Mizoram and Shri Zion Lalremruata, General Secretary, AMFU, Aizawl, Mizoram have talked about the importance of the programme in the context of Mizoram. Dr. N. Prakash, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya highlighted the convergence of state line departments and ICAR for development of agriculture in Mizoram.
Honorable Chief Minister of Mizoram released a Book entitled "Technological Options for Agricultural Production in Mizoram" and Fruit fly traps developed by ICAR RC NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib. Honorable Chief Minister of Mizoram had explained about impact of climate change and its adaptation and mitigation strategies like implementation of different activities under different projects in the context of climate change. He appreciated the overall achievements of the ICAR, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib and suggested the Scientists to work for the farming community of Mizoram to double their income. Dr. T. Boopathi, Scientist SS, ICAR, Kolasib delivered vote of thanks with which the programme was concluded. About 110 state officials from different line departments participated the one day awareness programme.
