A Case reports on adult cow from KVK Anjaw, Arunachal Pradesh

 

Army personal came with complain of breathing problem in adult cow with very bulge stomach and shaking head with dilated pupil in their campus.

Suddenly I rushed to the spot and took brief history of animal, consequently on physical examination of cow following symptom were noticed.

  • Excess accumulation of gas in rumen
  • Dyspnea  (breathing problem)
  • Tachycardia (increased heart rate)
  • General physical appearance of body were very healthy

Tentative diagnosis: BLOAT
 Without taking much time, started following line of treatments

  1. Rumen puncture: For immediate relief, Rumen was puncture to release the accumulated gas, using the needle of used microchip implanter, after sterilized in boiled water, in place of trocar and cannula which was not available in our Kendra.  
  2. Injection oxytetracycline:  10 ml oxytetracycline was directly infused into rumen through puncturing needle after complete removal of accumulated gas in rumen to reduce the microbial activities of rumen microflora, so that rate of fermentation is minimized to reduce gas production.
  3. Tympex (Anti-Bloat preparation) was drenched using mineral water bottle. To prevent further formation of gas.
  4. Injection Lofac-MP (Melonex & Paracetomal): 10 ml I/M was given to relief pain and other discomforts  
  5. Adlib cold water was provided to drink. 

Prognosis: Animal got relived after following line of treatments
