Cluster Demonstration on rabi pulses was conducted by KVK, Ribhoi.
A cluster demonstration was conducted on rabi pulses viz., Pea, blackgram & lentil under NFSM pulses programme by KVK, Ri-Bhoi on 17th & 27th November 2015 at Mawbri village where about 95 farmers from 7 cluster of villages were participated in different groups. The seeds of pea var. Prakash more than 300 kg, lentil var. Maitree more than 150 kg and Blackgram var. Kalindi more than 90 kg were distributed. The Subject Matter Specialist of KVK Ribhoi was demonstrated to grow seeds of Pea, Lentil and Blackgram by Zero tillage system with furrow opener in rice fallows at the farmers’ field. The cluster demonstration was initiative for the first time to bring awareness among farming community about the needs of pulses for nutritional security, increasing cropping intensity and income besides improving soil health.
The training cum demonstration was conducted after the details survey in the cluster of villages namely Khweng, Mawbri, Khodonghulu, Thadnongiaw, Liarkhla, Umiet etc where, the farmers had never been cultivated pulses crops in their villages. Under this programme 10 ha area each for Pea, Lentil & Blackgram will be covered during rabi 2015-16 to fulfill a little requirement of pulses crop in the cluster of villages for nutritional security, income and to restore soil health.
