Basar, 22nd December, 2014
A farmer’s field visit was conducted by Shri A. Kirankumar Singh, i/c Programme Coordinator, KVK West Siang, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, A. P. Centre, Basar on 22nd Dec., 2014 to Smt Karjum Kamdak’s field at Chirne Village. Shri Singh monitored the growth and development of Toria (TS-38) whose seed was supplied through seed production programme of the KVK and inspected for any problems of insect pests and diseases. But he didn’t observed any symptoms of insect pests infestation and diseases in the crop. However, in the potato crop, he observed the problem of infection due to late blight for which spraying of Carbendazim + Metalaxyl @ 2 g/lit of water at 10 days interval to cover the whole field of potato is suggested and cutworm infestation was also observed below Economic Threshold Level (ETL) for which hand picking is suggested to the farmer. Shri Singh also suggested to grow potato with certified variety and seed tuber after treatment in order not to face any problem of diseases. The farmer herself is also taking keen interest in seed production of toria from which she wants to extract oil for family consumption and seed purpose for the next year or for sell in the market.
