Training cum Exposure Visit of Progressive Farmers from Barpeta District of Assam

The Agriculture Development Officer, Barpeta district of Assam organized two training cum exposure visit programmes to ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi, Umiam under RKVY scheme. The main objectives for conducting the programmes was “Training cum Exposure visit on Modern Floriculture Cultivation Techniques”.

The first group of progressive farmers comprising 38 farmers and second group of 31 farmers visited KVK on 2nd - 3rd and 16th – 17th November, 2016 respectively. Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture interacted with the farmers in the KVK Instructional cum Demonstration Farm on flower cultivation. They were shown the best use of low cost polyhouse technology for flower production. A brief visit was also organized in the experimental farm of the Division of Horticultuire, ICAR NEH, Umiam by the ACTO of the division on both the occasions.

During both the visit programmes an interaction with the scientists of KVK was organized in the KVK office premises. The Programme Coordinator of the KVK welcomed the farmers and shared the aim and objectives of KVK for the betterment of farming community. During farmers’- scientist interactions, thorough discussion on various crop cultivation issues were held at KVK. Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture; Ms Meghna Sarma, SMS (Agronomy), Mrs. Mousumi G. Das, SMS Plant Protection and Dr. Popiha Bordoloi, SMS Soil Science addressed the various queries of the farmers in the programme. The Programme ended with vote of thanks by the SDAO, Barpeta, Assam.
