Training on Importance of Water Harvesting Structures on Hilly Region

 

A day long training on Importance of Water Harvesting Techinque through construction of cost effective Jalkund was held at Barfu Village on 29th June 2015.

Dr. Tilling Tayo, Programme Coordinator (i/c), KVK Anjaw while addressing the welcome note, asked the participants and stakeholders of the village to have a in-depth thought to mitigate the water problem faced by villagers by blending scientific technique with traditional knowledge.

Er. Uday Bhandari, SMS (Soil & Water Conservation Engg.) presented tecnology through power point presentation on importance of water conservation through construction of Jalkund with use of Silpaulin, right from the site selection, earth cutting to installation of silpaulin.

He informed the farmers that Jalkund is one of the most cost effective method of water harvesting in hilly areas.  He asked villagers to work in community participatory mode in construction of Jalkund as there share and if Jalkund prove to be farmers friendly water harvesting technique, later similar structure can be advocate for other dwelling hilly farming community.

Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS (Horticulture) spoked on the importance of Jalkund in horticulture aspect especially in reference to large cardamom, mostly dying due to shortage of water supply and excessive sun scorching.

Khuweso Tamai, General Secretary, Farmer Club, Hayuliang acting as a local interpreter, translated wherever farmers need to be deliver in local dialogue for making it more effective. Altogether 45 farmers were presented during training session.

The programme was concluded with distribution of Silpaulin, followed by vote of thanks by Maniyo, Headmaster, Middle School, Barfu.
