Brief report on Farmers awareness program organized jointly by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya & National Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur

 

A one day awareness program was organized on the 19th March 2016 at Mawthei Village, Ri-Bhoi District on “The Importance of Agricultural Marketing” jointly by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya and National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM), Jaipur. The awareness program was attended by 35 participants who are farmers in the village. The program began with a welcome speech by the Headman of Mawthei Village and it was followed by the speech of Dr. Aniruddha Roy, Scientist (Agril. Economics), Division of Social Sciences, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam who had made the farmers aware on the importance of agricultural marketing. He had also mentioned the need of value addition and supply chain management of different agricultural produce (fruits, ginger and turmeric) that could fetch a higher price in the market as compared to the raw agricultural produce. It was then followed by Mr. N. U. Singh (Agril. Statistics) who had also made the farmers aware of the importance of formation of Farmers groups so that they could market their products easily and could get a better price for their agricultural produce. The program then was followed with a farmers- scientists interaction in which the farmers raised questions relating to agricultural marketing as well as other questions relating to agriculture. It was then followed by distribution of inputs (seeds) to the farmers who have attended the program. The program then concluded with a vote of thanks from the Headman of Mawthei Village.
