Aqua-Horti Training cum Demonstration: Aiming higher food production in Arunachal Pradesh

Basar: 27th June’ 2016

Yet another multi-disciplinary National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB-Hyderabad) sponsored training cum demonstration programme was organized at Bam village, West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh by the Scientists of ICAR RC for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre (Basar) with a view to increase the food production one step ahead involving forty numbers of aqua-horti farmers. The programme was coordinated by Sh. Rahul das, Scientist (Aquaculture), encouraging the fish growers in a way to achieve the higher fish production-productivity through proper utilization of available water bodies, stocking with fish seed and application of fish feed engaging the techniques like “composite fish culture” and “integrated fish culture” when climate change has the potential to act as a 'risk multiplier', yet the rise in temperature is found to be beneficial for aquaculture, as rising temperatures augments the metabolic rate which accelerates the growth of the fishes upon improving the food conversion efficiencies especially in mid-hill region.  On spot water pH testing demonstration helped them to understand the importance of water quality parameters for a fish culture tank.

Sh. Thejangulie Angami, Scientist (Horticulture) highlighted on the importance of vegetative propagation of fruit crops in enhancing the fruit production. Considering the perennial nature of fruit crops, it is essential to choose the right cultivars and quality planting materials to ensure higher yield. Ensuring true-to-type, clean planting material, free from disease is critical. He also gave hands on training to the trainees on Budding techniques, Nucellar seedling selection in Khasi mandarin and air layering in guava through method demonstration.
