In house meeting for discussion on various issues of Animal Sciences based projects in Nagaland was organized on 19th May 2016 at ICAR RC for NEH Region Nagaland Centre. A total of 16 scientist from ICAR Nagaland Centre, NRC Mithun and faculty staff from SASRD, Medziphema along with Dean attended the meeting. The meeting was organized particularly to discuss the various issues related to the implementation and better coordination of Mega Seed Project on Pig, AICRP on Pig and Poultry Seed Project.The scientific meeting started with the presentation on MSP-Pig and PSP of ICAR Nagaland Centre by Dr.Mahak Singh, Scientist, ICAR Nagalnd Centre followed by in house discussion on the same. Dr. Nazrul Haque, Principle Scientist, NRC Mithun  has suggested analysing the feed quality from time to time and he has also stressed on developing the conventional type of feed for pig with the mixing of agro-industry by-products as it will reduce the cost of pig rearing at farmer’s field. Dr. R.C.Gupta, Dean, SASRD, Medziphema suggested to study the effects of sulphur containing amino acid supplementation in pig and poultry particularly glutathione, methionine and cysteineDr. D.J.Rajkhowa, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre suggested the house to find out the research gap in pig and poultry in Nagaland and prioritize the research work according to that only. He also emphasized on the housing and feeding management studies under climate variability. He further stressed to evaluate various kind of pig pen model under different climatic condition of Nagaland. He also emphasized on the need for preparation of status paper on present status and future strategies for pig farming in Nagaland.Dr.Nizzamuddin, head, LPM, SASRD, Medziphema advised to have our own feed manufacturing plant for preparation of pig and poultry feed. Dr. Catherine, Project Investigator, AICRP, SASRD, Medziphema briefed about the progress and activities of AICRP on pig. In the end it was decided to have two different approaches for further development in the field of livestock husbandry in Nagaland. First, to develop some feasible technologies in the field of animal nutrition at institute and second for extension work in farmer’s field. The meeting ended with vote of thanks to the chair by Dr. Mahak Singh.
