ICAR-KVK East Sikkim celebrates Agriculture Education Day
ICAR-KVK East Sikkim, Ranipool celebrated Agriculture Education Day on December 03, 2016 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gangtok for promotion the spirit of agriculture and allied subjects among the students. The day was marked with the participation of more than 65 students of Class IX, X and XI along with the teachers. This programme was organised in the dynamic leadership of Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI to observe on the occassion of birthday of first Union Minister of Agriculture, Government of India and first President of Independent India, Bharat Ratna, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR-NOFRI told the students about the spirit behind celebrating the Agricultural Education Day. He emphasized the importance of research, education and extension in various spheres of agricultural sciences and motivated the students to put their best efforts in shaping their career in the field of agriculture. He also stressed on the role of education in the development of the society and the role of KVKs in the demonstration of the new technology.
Dr. J.K. Singh, SMS (Plant Breeding), KVK-East Sikkim initiated the programme, appraised the students about the importance of agriculture, organizational set up of ICAR and its role in research, education and development activities. Different institutes involved under ICAR in various subject areas were also highlighted to the students.
Dr. N.J. Singh SMS (Plant Protection) highlighted about the mode of entrance and the pattern of preparation for ICAR exams, different scholarships and career opportunities in fields of agriculture.
Shri D. B. Meena, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gangtok expressed happiness about the active role of the ICAR-NOFRI and KVK- East Sikkim for providing knowledge of current agriculture education system in the country and expressed his satisfaction for the keen interests of the council to shape the future of rural students particularly in the remote areas during the celebration of Agricultural Education Day at this school.
At the end of the programme Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gangtok proposed vote of thanks for organizing such informative and inspirational event.
