Agri – Exhibition cum Technology Showcasing,  2015 organized by KVK, West Garo Hills District, Tura, Meghalaya

 

An Agri- Exhibition cum Technology Showcasing programme was organised by KVK, ICAR, West Garo Hills on 28th March, 2015 for the local farmers of Garo Hills at KVK, Tura campus. In the inaugural programme, Dr. Tanmay Samajdar, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Tura welcome the participants and local farmers with brief introduction for the purpose of organizing agri-exhibition. He requested the farmers to take the benefit of the presence of KVK in the district. Fr. Augustine, Director, MCBS, Tikkrikila in his short speech requested the KVK to organize this type of programmes for two or more days so that more farmers can participate and take the benefit of such programmes. Mr Jebline R. Sangma, Joint Director (Agriculture), Garo Hills, Meghalaya, the Chief Guest of the programme encouraged the farmers to take the opportunity to apply the front line technologies in their field for better production and self-sufficiency of food in their own village. He also praised the KVK, Tura for their efforts in disseminating the latest technologies to the farmers of Garo Hills. He also stressed upon the scope, benefits and prospects of organic farming in the district. A total of 07 Stalls were put up by the line departments, NGO’s and private agencies viz. District Agriculture Office (DAO), NABARD, BAKDIL, Mega Star Marketing, West Garo Hills, Tura, MCBS, Tikirikila, SHG’s  and farmers from different parts of the district. About 105 farmers and farm women participated including 15 Extension functionaries from NGO, MCBS- Tikrikilla, and BAKDIL and 30 rural youths. The participants visited the stalls to have glimpses of different frontline technologies and interacted with the exhibitors so as to learn about the activities and technologies available within the district. A Scientist Farmers Interaction was also held after the inaugural programme. Mr. A.S.Singh, SMS (Horticulture), Dr.M. Mokidul Islam, SMS (Agronomy), Mr.Tarun Kr. Das, SMS (Agri. Extension), Mr. Naorem Arunkumar Singh, SMS (SWCE) and Mr. Meril N.Sangma, Assistant Director of Agrculture, Plant Protection, Government of Meghalaya, Tura  took part in the discussion in which the participants had threat bearing discussion regarding organic farming, SRI, availability of seeds and inputs etc. The programme was ended with vote of thanks by Mr. A.S.Singh, SMS (Horticulture), KVK, Tura.
