Regional workshop of Animal Nutrition Society of India (ANSI)
held at NRC on Mithun, Medziphema on Nov 24, 2014
Regional stakeholders workshop Augmentation of Livestock Productivity in NE Region through Nutritional Interventions was held jointly by ANSI and NRC on Mithun at NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland on Nov. 24, 2014. Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Honble Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, the Chief Guest, inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Ngachan emphasized the need for feeding of balanced rations to their animals for getting optimu productivity. He called for judicious use of available existing feed resources for improving animal performance. He also stated that NE Region has vast potential for producing organic animal products as there is negligible use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc. for raising animals, however, local feed production is required for this. Dr. Nazrul Haque, Principal Scientist, NRC on Mithun presented welcome address. Dr. C. Rajkhowa, Director NRC on Mithun was the Chairman of The Workshop. He said that importance of nutrition lies in the fact that of the total cost of production, feeding alone contributes about 60-80%. Dr. S.S. Kundu, Secretary, ANSI talked about the activities of ANSI since its inception and also highlighted the theme of this workshop. Dr. Chander Datt, Chief Editor of IJAN, and Co -organizing Secretary of the workshop presented vote of thanks.
In The technical session, the issues of overall scenario of livestock and poultry in NEH Region balanced feeding of animals based on local feed resources, supplementation of area specific mineral mixtures for enhanced production, reproduction, immunity and health, shelter management and nutritional strategies under climate changing scenario were discussed. Uses of chaff cutters for chaffing of roughages, preparation of, feed block, etc. were emphasized. The technical session was chaired by Dr. S.S. Thakur, Vice-President (NZ) of ANSI and Co-Chaired by Dr. S. K. Tomer, Principal Scientist, NDRI, Karnal and Dr. Akhilesh Kumar, Scientist (Vet Med.) NRC on Mithun acted as rapporteur. About 60 farmers from Dimapur Milk Union and Porba attended this Workshop. Dr. B. C. Deka, JD, ICAR RC, Nagaland Centre, Dr. Sohan Vir Singh, Principal Scientist, NDRI, Karnal, Dr. V. K. Vidhyarthi, Head, Animal Production Department of SASRD, Dr. Savino, Dr. Cathrina, Dr. Nizamuddin from SASRD, Scientists from NRC on Mithun, ICAR Complex, Nagaland Centre , staff of Dimapur Milk union and Officers from Deptt. Vet. & Husbandry also attended the Workshop. The road map for enhanced animal productivity through nutritional inventions was chalked out which would help the farmers of this region economically on a sustainable basis.
