Working Group Meeting of AICRP on Agrometeorology.

The annual working group meeting of AICRP on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM) was held at Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar during 17-19 November, 2015.

   

Prof. MK Khan, Vice Chancellor (in-charge) of OUAT presided over the meeting.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, the chief guest of the function, highlighted about the greater role that is likely to be played by the project, among the AICRPs, in meeting the challenges of climate change. He emphasized the need to reclassify crop growing regions in the backdrop of climate change. He envisaged that field specific agromet advisory services will be the ultimate solution that is expected from the group. He also urged the group to work on weather based crop insurance products, which will provide income security to the farmers in this era of extreme weather events.

Dr. VUM Rao, Project Coordinator, AICRPAM presented the progress made during 2014-15 and also threw light on the preparedness of the project for upcoming QRT (2011-15).
Four 'Agroclimatic atlases' and 12 technical bulletins on 'Agrometeorology of crops' major crop of respective centres were published during the inaugural session.
The meeting consisted of seven technical sessions in which, the cooperating centres presented their progress of research work under five themes .
