“1st National Mushroom Day” celebrated at ICAR-RC-NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, with theme of “Mushroom for nutrition and health” under AICRP on Mushroom.
The 1st National Mushroom Day was organised by ICAR RC NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib 796 081, Mizoram on 23rd December 2016 with theme of “Mushroom for Nutrition and Health”. Youth, women and children were attended the programme. Dr SB Singh, Joint Director, ICAR RC NEH Region Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, Mizoram welcomed the all participant and in his welcome address he stressed upon vital role of mushroom cultivation for socio-economic sustainability of tribal farmer. He urged the youth and women folks of Mizoram to initiate the mushroom cultivation as an agri-business enterprise and to become a successful mushroom entrepreneur. Miss Angela Laltangpui, SRF (NICRA) presented an audio visual aided lecture on mushroom for nutrition and health in local dialect (Mizo). A mizo dialect leaflet containing information on mushroom nutrient content and its benefit to mankind also distributed. Participant were acquired many unknown fact of mushroom with respect to nutrition and benefit for human health. Dr. A. Ratankumar Singh, Scientist (Plant Pathology) highlighted the need of Mushroompreneurship in Mizoram and start up large scale mushroom production for socio-economic and environmental security. He emphasised the potential scope of mushroom production due to rich resources and wide availability of agricultural waste (banana leaves, oil palm, maize, coffee husk etc), local taste, favourable climatic conditions, huge market demand and scope for post-harvest processing in hill of Mizoram. During evening session, participant visited the mushroom production unit of our centre and demonstrated the production technology. The Mushroom spent compositing technology also demonstrated to the participant and they had shown enthusiastic to take up mushroom cum spent composting production in future course. Live sample and dried mushroom of different variety of oyster mushroom also displayed during the mushroom day celebration. The programme was considered grand success and concluded by offering vote of thanks given by Dr. A. Ratankumar Singh, PI, AICRP on Mushroom, ICAR RC NEH Region Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, Mizoram.
