Ten Days training programme entitled “Adaptation and Mitigation Options for Climate Resilient Agriculture” was organized under NICRA at ICAR Research Complex, Umiam.

 

In order to disseminate climate resilient technologies, a 10 day’s training programme entitled “Adaptation and Mitigation Options for Climate Resilient Agriculture” was organized under NICRA at ICAR Research Complex, Umiam. The training was about to strengthen the knowledge base of the teacher, researcher and extension personnel about climate change and variability, its possible impact on agriculture as well as available options for adaptation and mitigation to climate change with particular reference to North East India.  The participants found the training highly beneficial, which enhanced their knowledge base and gave them a fresh outlook to work in the various areas discussed during the programme.

During the ten days training there was an extensive discussion on sustainable and climate resilient agriculture including livestock and fisheries management. In the context of climate variability in NE region, the discussed issues were apt to the situation. The training programme was attended by 28 trainees from across the country. The training enriched their knowledge and a total of 31 lectures were delivered by various resource person from IARI, CRIDA, and ICAR NEH also. Practical demonstration and field visit were also arranged as a part of the training programme. The training enhanced the knowledge base of the trainees on adoption of suitable soil and water management practices, rainwater harvesting and its efficient utilization, agroforestry interventions, organic farming, conservation agricultural practices, greenhouse gas emission carbon sequestration  location specific Integrated Farming System (IFS) models nutrient and pest management practices, shelter, feeding and health management in livestock on minimizing the impact of climate change and many other aspects were dealt during the training. The programme was organized under the NICRA (National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture) project of the institute. The ten days training has come to an end today on 30th April.
