ICAR KVK-East Sikkim initiates “Sankalp Se Siddhi Programme” 

 

To take forward the initiative of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for “Sankalp Se Siddhi”New India Movement (2017 – 2022) one-day programme was organized on August 19, 2017 at Conference Hall of KVK, East Sikkim, Ranipool. The programme was undertaken to discuss the mission of doubling the farmer’s income by 2022 in Sikkim. The ICAR-KVK- East Sikkim celebrated the “World Honey Bee Day” programme on the same day. During the celebration programme, a “Farmers - Scientists interaction” was organized in which a total of 48 nos. of progressive farmers of Timpyem, Nandok, Thanka and Lossing villages of East Sikkim, State Govt. Officials and Scientific staff of ICAR-NOFRI participated. The interaction programme was chaired by Dr. R. K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI accompanied by Dr. Ashish Yadav, Sr. Scientist (Horticulture), Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy), Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Sr. Scientist (Animal Reproduction & Gynaecology) and all other Scientists and SMS of KVK–East Sikkim.  The programme was organized by ICAR-KVK- East Sikkim and sponsored by ATMA, East Sikkim, Govt. of Sikkim which was coordinated by Sh. Boniface Lepcha.

The programme was initiated by welcome address given by Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head (I/c), KVK, East Sikkim. In his welcome address he briefed the aim and objectives of “Sankalp Se Siddhi” and “World Honey Bee Day” programme being organized by different ICAR Institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras all over the country.

The programme was chaired by Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR- National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong, Gangtok. Addressing the gathering he briefed on importance of planning and account keeping to doubling the farmer’s income by 2022. He also stressed on the importance of soil health management for sustainable organic agriculture in Sikkim. He urged the farmers towards establishing the livestock unit as sources of organic inputs within the farm to reduce dependence on external inputs as well higher income generation. He also urged the farmers and service providers for convergence of technology and financial resources to achieve the goal.    

Addressing the gathering Mrs. Asha Lama, Director, SAMETI, Govt. of Sikkim stressed on selection of real farmers for different need based training program organized by KVK. She stated the importance for development of some model Farm Schools in the district. She also requested the farmers to properly maintain the Farm Diary.

Mrs. Bina Rai, Joint Director, FSADD, Govt. of Sikkim briefed about the Mission Organic Value Chain Development (MOVCD), Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and other Govt. flagship programme. Mrs. Rachna Gurung, Project Director, ATMA, East Sikkim elaborated the role and activities of ATMA, East Sikkim in agricultural development of Sikkim. 

At the end of the programme Mr. Boniface Lepcha, SMS (Horticulture) proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Anushree Gogoi, Programme Asstt., KVK, East Sikkim assisted in the smooth execution of the programme.
