World Water Day at ICAR Nagaland Centre

      ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, organised World Water Day with the theme “Valuing water” on 22nd March, 2021. The function was graced by Shri. Zhaleo Rio, Advisor, Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Govt. of Nagaland as Special Guest. During his speech, he enlightened the gathering about the multiple use of water based on its utility and location. He shared about Jal Shakti Abhiyan which starts from 22nd March till 30th November. He stressed about the clean water for drinking purpose and the villagers should take advantage of the good and clean water available in their reach and not to depend with the bottle water.

Prof. M. Aleminla Ao, Pro-Vice Chancellor, NU, SASRD, Medziphema, talk about importance of World Water Day and how crucial it is for us to value water. Water is also very importance on Environment, Agriculture, Trade and Commerce and we cannot run our household without water.

Dr. A. K. Sangwan, Dean, College of Vety. Sciences and AH, CAU, Jalukie, talk about Nagaland being naturally blessed state with abundant rain and water but also expressed surpised that most of the water are not harvested but wasted. He deliberated on creation of water reserves and also water management for efficient use in agriculture, livestock, industries etc. Also he said that in the NorthEast ownership of natural resource lies with the individual or community rather than the Government, therefore, all of us need to collectively take great care of them.

Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Ex-Director, ICAR Res. Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya, talk about the conservation of water today for the furture generations and not to abuse the God’s gift to us. Conservation should begin with every one of us fow which we will see the results in couple of years from now. Every one could plant a tree now and save the nature from disaster.

Dr. D. J. Rajkhowa, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre, welcome the gathering and shared about the current status of water of the state and also in global scenario. He also stressed on the water conservation practices being follow in different places and to conserve and use water judiciously. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. L. K. Baishya, Principal Scientist (Agronomy).

On the occasion of World Water Day, competions such as Eassay Writing and Drawing on the topic “Valuing water resources for conservation, storage and multiple use” were conducted for the staff and staff’s children respectively.

Also, inputs were distributed to the participating farmers after which technical session and farmers scientist interaction were conducted.
