Training on Soil and Water Conservation conducted by KVK, West Garo Hills in collaboration with Department of Soil & Water Conservation, Tura, Meghalaya
A training programme on Soil and Water Conservation was conducted on 8th August, 2019 by KVK, West Garo Hills in collaboration with Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Government of Meghalaya, Tura at Marapara village under National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project. A total number of 35 farmers and farm women from 5 different adopted villages of NICRA participated in the programme. Shri Naorem Arunkumar Singh, SMS (SWCE), KVK, West Garo Hills welcomed the farmer participants and officials present during the programme. Dr. Joyoshree Mahanta, Senior Scientist & Head (i/c), KVK, West Garo Hills encouraged the farmers for showing keen interest in conserving soil and water of the project area and briefed them about the importance and benefit of the programme and also stressed upon the present scenario of climate change which ultimately impact the agricultural activities of the farmers. Shri Halo D. Sangma, Senior ASCO, Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Tura emphasized on the importance of water especially ground water recharge, control of soil erosion, spring rejuvenation etc. in the district. Shri Chekham B. Marak, Demonstrator, Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Tura trained the participants on techniques and methods to harvest water from roof top. He mentioned about the preparation of low cost filter and also explained about the surface rain water harvesting. Shri Hardy D. Marak, Demonstrator of the same department discussed about the methods of spring rejuvenation and ways to find out the areas for watershed etc. After the technical session, a practical demonstration on calculation of slope percentage was conducted. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Shri Naorem Arunkumar Singh, SMS (SWCE), KVK, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya.
