Training-Cum-Awareness on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights, Act 2001 Programme Organized by ICAR-KVK, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya

 

A one day Training-Cum-Awareness On Protection Of Plant Varieties And Farmers’ Rights, Act 2001 Programme organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 19th March, 2016 at Seminar Hall, ICAR Complex, Umiam. At the beginning of the programme, Dr. M. Mokidul Islam, Programme Coordinator, KVK Ri-Bhoi welcomed all dignitaries as well as farmers of the district and briefly explained the purpose of the PPV & FR Act, 2001. Dr. A. C. Sarma, Deputy Registrar, PPV & FR Authority, Guwahati explained the essence of the Act. Dr. B. C. Deka, Director, ATARI Zone-III, ICAR Umiam explained the role of farmers with regards to the Act. Dr. A. K. Tripathi, Director Incharge, ICAR Umiam encouraged the farmers to take the benefit of the PPV & FR Act, 2001 for their financial upliftment.  He also requested the farmers to take the aid of KVK Ri Bhoi for registration of their indigenous germplasm under the Act. The programme was attended by different heads of Divisions of ICAR, Scientists and Staff of ICAR, Umiam as well as about 300 farmers of Ri Bhoi District. A Farmers-Scientist Interaction session was also held wherein the farmers were briefed on the various benefits of the Act as well as the steps and procedures for registering their indigenous plant crops under the Act.
