Scientist-Farmer Interaction Builds Confidence in Farmers – Dr. Balyan

Kisan Goshthi-cum-Exhibition was organised in Barwala village of Muzzafarnagar on 14 December 2014 with a theme of “Efficient water management for higher sugarcane productivity”. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture was the Chief Guest of the programme. He emphasized that such sensitization programmes and live demonstration of technologies at farmers’ door will enthuse confidence to adopt modern technologies. Dr. Balyan further stated that action research programmes can help tremendously in diffusion of technologies.

 
 

Dr. Alok K. Sikka, DDG (NRM), ICAR said that Muzaffarnagar district is known as Sugar Bowl of India as is under severe stress due to over-exploitation of ground water. In over-exploited blocks, the ground water is declining at a alarming rate and urged that integrated effort of managing demand and augmenting supply can reverse the process of declining water resources.

 

Dr. H.S. Gaur, VC (SBPAU&T) stressed upon the soil health management and informed that soil health card is being prepared by KVK, Muzaffarnagar and fertilizer application based on soil test will help to balance the fertilizer application.

Dr. A.K. Singh, DDG (Agri. Ext), ICAR urged the farmers to make use of scientific technologies as this is the era of science and organization of such awareness programme help in demonstrating of modern technologies.

Dr. B. Gangwar, Director, IIFSR welcomed the dignitaries and farmers and elaborated the purpose of the meeting. Dr. R C Srivastava, Director, DWM, Bhubaneswar; Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, CSWRTI, Dheradun; and Dr. Brham Parkash, Director, CIRC, Meerut also interacted with the farmers.

Dr. Prem Singh, Pri. Scientist (IIFSR) & Coordinator of Kisan Goshthi anchored the programme and also presented the vote of thanks.

More than 700 farmers participated in the programme.
