“Farmers’ - Scientist Interaction” on Rabi Pulses (TSP).

The ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi, Umiam, Meghalaya organized a day long Farmers’ - Scientist Interaction Programme with special emphasis on promotion of pulses at Umknon village under Umling block on 19th November, 2016. The main objective of the interaction programme was to exchange views and experiences directly with the farmers on different problems in agriculture and allied sectors with special emphasis on pulses. About 32 women farmers belong to Umkon and Sohtad village were participated.

At the outset of the programme, Mrs. Angella Moiong, welcomed the Programme Coordinator and his team from KVK Ri-Bhoi. The Programme Coordinator, expressed his gratitude to the farmers for being present in the interaction programme despite of their busy paddy harvesting season. He briefed about the objectives of conducting such programme at villages and deliverables under TSP project for the benefit of the tribal farmers of the district particularly on nutritional aspects and benefits on soil health and crop productivity. He opined that the farmers should leave behind their hesitations and come forward to interact with the KVK scientists for obtaining better agricultural productivity in their villages. The farmers discussed with the scientist on cultivation of pea, lentil, onion, french bean, gerbera, anthurium, coriander, cole crops, disease and pets management, vermicompost, soil testing, etc.. About 80 kg Pea seeds  Var. Vikash and Lentil var. HUL 57 was also distributed to women farmers. Necessary training and method demonstration was imparted by SMSs of Horticulture, Agronomy and Soil Science for higher productivity and income of the farming community with the increase of cropping intensity.
