ICAR institute foundation was marked with conclusion Regional Agri-Fair

The 43rd ICAR institute foundation was commemorated alongwith the concluding function of the four days Regional AgriFair. The focal theme of the fair was “Drive to doubling income of tribal farmers in North East India.” The four day event witnessed various events and funfair with traditional food and cuisine being the highlight. The four days Regional Agriculture Fair (RAF) gave special emphasis on finding ways and solutions to sustain income security from prevalent traditional form of agriculture and also initiated the steps towards doubling of farmers' income in the NE region.  The farmers’ scientist interaction was another key feature of the event which created an opportunity for the various stakeholders at regional level to exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences for effective transfer of technology. The four days event witnessed brainstorming sessions on doubling farmers’ income and successful implementations of the schemes for the farmers.

The 43rd ICAR institute foundation day was celebrated by felicitating the staffs of the institute for their commendable contribution towards the institute. Addressing the gathering Dr Narendra Prakash, Director ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region highlighted the achievements of the institute in the last decade and remembered the contributions of his predecessors. Over the decades, the institute contributed immensely towards the food security mission of the country and specifically towards the region.

The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. C. Rajkhowa, Former Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland. Speaking on the occasion he said that the institute is working towards the development of the farming community and emphasizing on a technology based agriculture through combining technology with the traditional farming practices and it’s a major step taken towards the conservation of natural resources.

The other dignitaries’ who spoke on the occasion were Shri B. K. Sohliya, OSD, Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship, Shillong. In his speech Shri Sohliya, said that ICAR has fulfilled the aspirations of the farmers of the entire North Eastern Region. The Jalkund technology which was developed by the ICAR is now being adopted by the state government. The research institute has grown over the years and its relevance can be seen in the success stories of the farmers’.

The other dignitaries present for the occasion included Dr S.V. Ngachan, former director of the institute and Dr Azad Thakur, Professor Central Agricultural Institute, Dr K.K. Baruah, Dr A. Sen along with the staffs of the of the institute. The programmed ended with a pledge to take modern agricultural technologies to the doorsteps of farming community.
