ICAR, KVK, West Garo Hills Celebrated Protection Of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act, 2001

 

KVK, West Garo Hills celebrated Protection of Plant varieties and Farmers right Act (PPV FR Act, 2001) on 23rd March 2018 by creating awareness, training and organising exhibition. The programme was started with a welcome speech by Dr. Joyoshree Mahanta, ACTO, Plant Pathology. She also elaborated the objective of the programme both in English and local language to the gathering and also detailed the importance of organising exhibitions as part of the programme. Mr.A. S. Singh, SS & Head (i/c) KVK delivered the inaugural speech in local language. Mr. A. Kumar Singh, SMS ,Soil Science briefed the participants about the procedures of registering plant varieties and also the importance of protecting plant varieties and farmers’right. Chief guests of the programme Dr.Binu Mathew, Assoc .Professor, Dept. of RDAP, NEHU Tura campus, addressed the gathering about  the importance of the programme and also emphasised on the fact as to why the programme is the need of the hour. He also elaborated the fact with various   exmples as to why many a times farmers are deprieved of their rights and are not given due recognition despite working very hard. He also urged the farmers to preserve and conserve the local germplasms of crops for the future and also register them with the help of KVK officials. The programme was also attended by officials from District Agriculture office, West Garo Hills. Both ways interactions with the farmers were held to clear their doubts about the programme and the registration process. Nearly 72 farmers from five villages attended the programme. Finally the programme ended with a vote of thanks by  Dr. Joyoshree Mahant, ACTO, Plant Pathology.
