ICAR AP Centre Empowered East Siang Tribal Farmers Through Training Cum Distribution Programme Under NEC and TSP Projects

 

The ICAR AP Centre organized training cum distribution program on 5th May, 2018 at College Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pashighat under the guidance of DR. H. Kalita, Joint Director, ICAR AP Centre, Basar in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Siang to enhance the livelihood of tribal farmers through distribution of orange seedlings under NEC funded project along with distribution of manure, biopesticides and spray machines under TSP project. During the program a total of 65 progressive farmers of different villages of Nari, Mebo, Ruksin and Pasighat blocks of East Siang districts and benefitted with the technical know how and various inputs.

Chief Guest of the program DR. A. K. Pandey, Dean, College of Horticulture & Forestry,Central Agricultural University, Pashighat, in his address thanked the Joint Director, ICAR Sikkim Centre for organizing such programme for enhancement of livelihood of tribal farmers of East Siang district through training and input support system under NEC and TSP projects. He emphasized on using the organic based ecofriendly technologies for doubling the farmer’s income of the state by 2022.

Guest of honour Dr. B. N. Hazarika, Dean, College of Agriculture, CAU Pasighat briefed the citrus grower farmers about the future prospects and strategies taken by the university and ICAR for enhancing fruit production in the region. He also convinced farmers for using good quality planting materials, intercropping, nutrient management and soil health management for increasing production and productivity of fruit production in the state in order to double the farmer’s income.

Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director, ICAR AP Centre appreciated the farmers for taking interest for cultivation of orange.  He highlighted the activities of the Centre related to doubling of farmers income. He delivered lecture on management of insect pests and diseases of different important crops mainly orange.

Dr. M Pathak, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK-East Siang and Mr. Toge Riba, SMS Plant Protection delivered the lectures regarding using good seed materials, integrated management of pests and diseases for sustainable crop production.

Dr. Rajesh A. Alone highlighted the possibility of intercrops to be done for earning of extra income by the farmers at the early stage of Khasi mandarin.

Dr. Ampee Tasung shared her views about the soil testing, soil health management and nutrient management for commercial fruit production.
