Mushroom Day Celebration at ICAR, Umiam

 

Mushroom day with the theme “Mushroom cultivation for wealth from waste” was celebrated at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region (under AICRP on Mushroom) on 23.12.17. Programme was attended by 35 participants including scientists, technical staff, supporting staff, entrepreneurs and farmers from different villages. Dr. Pankaj Baiswar (Nodal Officer, AICRP on Mushroom) informed the gathering about the importance of mushroom cultivation. He also emphasized on the quantum of paddy straw availability in this region which can be successfully utilized for mushroom cultivation for income generation. Demonstration was conducted on oyster mushroom cultivation. Farmers also visited the growing rooms of oyster, button and Shiitake mushroom at Plant Pathology farm. Technical bulletin (in Khasi language- “Ka jingrep tit bad ka rukom pynmih symbai tit”) related to Mushroom cultivation and spawn production was also distributed along with spawn to the farmers. Programme was coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Baiswar, Dr. Anup Das, Dr. H. Rymbai and Dr. P.K. Sinha.
