Method demonstration of nursery management in protected cultivation and distribution of quality planting materials by KVK Anjaw.

Nursery is consequently the basic necessity of horticulture. It is a place where plants are propagated and grown to its usable size. Nurseries often grow plants in a greenhouse, a building of glass or in plastic tunnels, designed to protect young plants from harsh weather while allowing access to light and ventilation. All winter vegetables especially cole crops are raised from seeds in nurseries. Except few vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potato, bulbous vegetables and someother vegetables are raised by seedlings. Hence to popularize the concept of nursery of winter/Rabi crop cultivation in Anjaw district, ICARKVK Metengliang conducted an on farm method demonstration title‘nursery management under protected cultivation’ on 25th September 2016. The farmerswere imparted field demonstration on nursery preparation, its types, pre-sowing treatments and its management.Based on the saying that‘Seeing is believing’, the nursery preparation techniques were also practically demonstrated. They were encouraged to adopt vegetable farming to meet their domestic requirement as well as to earn extra income by selling their surplus produce round the year.At the end of the programme, seedlings of cole crops (100 nos each of Cabbage, Broccoli and Chinese cabbage) and King chilli seedlings in polybags (5 nos. each) were distributed to 17 beneficiaries in order to encourage the farmers.
