Kisan Mela Organized at Leh-Ladakh

A one-day Kisan Mela was organized at Regional Research Station (RRS) of Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) at Leh on 29 August 2014. Dr AK Sikka, Deputy Director General (NRM), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) inaugurated this Mela as Chief Guest of the event. Dr Sikka emphasised the need for synergy among all line departments and research organizations for faster dissemination of sustainable agricultural technologies for the benefit of farmers in Ladakh. He appreciated efforts of CAZRI for its impact in the region in a short period of time.

Dr Jigmat Takpa, Chief Conservator of Forest and Project Director, Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA) was the Guest of Honour on this occasion. Dr Takpa described major constraints in the region and appraised about the government initiatives for development. 

Dr MM Roy, Director, CAZRI welcomed the dignitaries and participants and briefed about the institute’s initiatives for cold arid regions, especially the Leh-Ladakh.

Besides 300 farmers that included 180 women; representatives of ICAR Institutes , KVKs, state line departments, and non-government organizations participated in this event. 10 exhibition stalls were put up by different agencies and 10 innovative farmers were facilitated by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour on this occasion.

In the end, Dr JC Tewari, Principal Scientist and Coordinator of CAZRI-RRS, Leh proposed a vote of thanks.
