Training on Post-harvest management and value addition of Khasi Mandarin

 

Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) fruits are very perishable in nature and leads to severe post-harvest losses. So to create an awareness among the farmers, a one day long training programme on “Post-harvest management and value addition of Khasi mandarin” was organized by ICAR, KVK Anjaw here at Tafraliang village under Hayuliang circle, Anjaw district on 31st January 2016. Senpon Ngomle, SMS (Plant Pathology) welcomed the participants and briefed the gathering about the importance of organizing this training. Altogether 25 farmer women, mostly from “SYADU” self-help group (SHG) attended the training programme.

Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS (Horticulture) coordinator of the training programme delivered her lecture in details on different techniques (proper harvesting, handling and storage) of post-harvest management. She also aware the women folk about the value addition techniques which not only mitigate the problem of post-harvest losses but also acts as a sustainable income generation means to the farmers. Later on a hands on training on value added products (like jam, jelly and squash, etc.) was organized.
