Exhibition cum technology showcasing at KVK Ri-Bhoi

 

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ri bhoi situated at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam organized a one day exhibition cum technology showcasing at Umiam Barapani.  About 150 farmers from the district participated in the fair and displayed their individual products which were later sold.

The KVK is demonstrating a number of farmers’ friendly technologies, which are already propagated in different areas of Ri-Bhoi district.

Welcoming the delegates and the farmers, Programme Coordinator in-Charge Dr. S.K. Baishya explained to the farmers about the purpose of organizing such a programme. The motive behind the programme is to motivate the farmers to adopt the different modern technologies of farming. 

Mr S. Kharrngi, a progressive farmer from Mawtnum village thanked the KVK for their constant support to the farming community in the district. He also shared his recent experience at Gandhi Nagar Gujarat and expressed that the farmers of this region are lagging far behind in comparison to the farmers of the other parts of the country. In this connection he has appealed to his farmer friends’ to take much help from KVK and ICAR in order to progress in agriculture.

Inaugurating the programme, the Director of the Institute Dr S. V. Ngachan expressed that in order to progress in agriculture one has to practice farming as part of the social system and then only we can have progress in agriculture. He has advised the farmers that the need of the hour is not only to produce but also to sell the products at the right price, which they can achieve by developing their entrepreneurship skills. He also emphasized that farmers should work on organic farming which will help in keeping the soil fertility for future generations to come.  

Dr A. K. Tripathi, In-charge Zonal Project Director, Zone III, informed about the new initiatives taken by the central government for the welfare of the farmers and these programmes help the farmers to up-date their knowledge from time to time. He also expressed that the mobile phone technology should be used by different farmers in spreading modern and up to date knowledge in farming.  

After the inaugural programme a farmers’ scientist interaction programme was organized, here the farmers keenly participated to solve their various problems related to disease, pest-infection, bee keeping vaccination in animal rearing, etc. The farmers also enjoyed an agriculture quiz which was also organized on the same occasion; the winners were awarded with prize money.
