KVK Ri-Bhoi Organized Vocational Training Programme On “Production And Multiplication Of Horticultural Crops Under Low Cost Polyhouse”

 

A group of seventeen school dropouts from Kapmara and Umget villages have attended the week long training programme on “Production and Multiplication of Horticultural Crops Under Low Cost Polyhouse”. The training was organized during 8th to 14th December, 2017. Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture as a course director of the programme imparted upon skill and knowledge on the protected cultivation of crops especially, vegetables during off season production, producing high quality vegetable nursery and cultivation of crops like gerbera, orchids, strawberry, etc to generate employment and income. Accordingly, during the programme two exposure trips to Horticulture Farm, Govt. of Meghalaya, Dewlieh and RRTC (NGO), Umran were undertaken. Dr. H. Rymbai, Scientist Horticulture Division took a session on polyhouse construction, crop selection, land preparation, etc. Mrs. Jessica Dohtong, Programme Assistant Home Science of KVK Ri-Bhoi interacted with the trainees on processing of fruits and vegetables.

The training ignited the minds of participants for crop diversification and sustaining steady income through use of low cost polyhouse. The programme ended with feedback and interaction session of the participants with the Dr. M. Mokidul Islam, Senior Scientist and Head of the KVK Ri-Bhoi and Dr. Arnab Sen, Nodal officer KVK’s, ICAR RC NEH Umiam, Meghalaya with the distribution of certificate of participation to the participants for their future benefit.
