KVK Ri-Bhoi Celebrated “Mahila Kisan Diwas

 

KVK Ri-Bhoi celebrated “Mahila Kisan Diwas ” on the 15th October 2018 at Nonglakhiat village of Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya. About 37 farm women along with the KVK Staffs attended the programme. The main aim of the programme is to aware and ensure that the farm women is an integral part of the mainstream agriculture and contribute to farm productivity and production as well as in doubling the income of their families. The Head of the KVK Ri-Bhoi, greeted the farm women and explained that the particular day is also celebrated Internationally as Rural Women Day. He mentioned that it is a day to remember the farm and rural women and give them gratitude for taking part in Agriculture which is the backbone of the country. Shri. C.Rymbai, the Chairman, Nonglakhiat village council thanked the KVK Ri Bhoi and encourage the farm women to play an important role not only in the family but also in agriculture and farming. During the programme, competition on local agricultural product as exhibits and drawing  among the farm women were conducted. The farm women awarded with first, second, third and consolation prizes to the winners of both the competitions. About 37 farm women showcased their farm and agricultural produces which include turmeric, ginger, fruits vegetable, leafy vegetables, squashes, elephant foot colocasia, soyabean, dried chilli, pickles, passion fruits etc and the first prize went to Mrs. Briancy Thangkhiew for her different varieties of fresh, healthy and clean vegetables, leafy vegetables, fruits, spices and different types of flowers and orchids. Second prize went to Miss A. Rani for her clean and healthy vegetables, fruits and spices. The third prize went to Mrs. N. Thangkhiew for her healthy vegetables, spices, fruits and flowers and the consolation prize went to Mrs. K. Diengdoh and Mrs. Phiancy Thangkhiew for their clean and healthy fresh vegetables, spices and fruits. About 37 farm women participated in the drawing competition which depicts many Integrated Farming System models, farm yard farming, back yard poultry and piggery farming, improved farm tools and implements, kitchen gardening, scientific paddy cultivation method, etc. The first prize for drawing competition went to Mrs. Evariline Lating, second prize  to Mrs. Ribel Kharshiiing and third prize  to Mrs. Elizabeth  Mukhim for their innovative ideas on doubling farming income activities and a consolation prize were given  to Ms. Phibalapynhun Thangkhiew and Mrs. Ritabiani Rani. Lastly, the programme ended with prize distribution and vote of thanks by Mr. C. Rymbai, the chairman of Nonglakhiat village.
