Monitoring cum Diagnostic Visit Conducted BY KVK Anjaw

 

A team from KVK Anjaw comprising of Subject Matter Specialist Shri Soibam peter (Social Sciences), Shri Senpon Ngomle (Plant Protection) and Khoisnam Naveen (Agronomy) conducted a monitoring cum diagnostic visit to Shri. Sorem Chaitoum’s and Sosai Chaitom’s field at Sopliang village under Metengliang circle on 27th June, 2015. During the visit, the team monitored the cultivation practices in case of maize, cowpea and also for horticultural crops.

Later, the Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), Naveen Khoisnam identified the maize and cowpea field infected with stem borer, leaf blight and yellow mosaic virus. He advocated the farmers to go for uprooting and destruction of the infected plants of cowpea and encourages farmers for intercropping of maize with cowpea as ecofriendly measures of reducing the incidence of stem borer.

Senpon Ngomle, Plant Protection Specialist identified pest and diseases occurred in citrus, banana and pineapple. He suggested the farmers to prune the affected plants parts and destroy them in order to avoid further spread and damage. For citrus trunk borer, he advice the farmers to apply cotton soaked in petrol in tunnels and plug them with mud.

Subject Matter Specialist (Social Sciences) S. Peter Singh identified problems regarding improper market location, market linkage, communication and transport system were also one of the major constraints faced by the farmers  and accordingly certain solutions like awareness on market intelligence, proper market linkage, timely disposal pattern of produce crops, proper storage structure and less involvement of intermediaries in marketing channel to receive more margin by the producers and to encourage the interest of the farmers were suggested.
