KVK East Sikkim acknowledges Smart Farmers at Nandok, EastSikkim

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Sikkim Centre, Ranipool, and East Sikkim organized a programme on “Certificate distribution for Smart  Farmer  on  the  occasion  of  ICAR Foundation  Day”  under  the  project ‘National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)’ at Upper Nandok on 16th July, 2014. A total 100 numbers of farmers, farm women and rural youth of Upper and Lower Nandok were acknowledged with Smart Farmer Certificates in the programme.

The programme was headed by Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director (I/c), ICAR Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Gangtok. At most, he appreciated the gathering of farm women during the programme and highlighted the importance of the Smart Farmer Certificates. He also acknowledged farmers of the region for their contribution in making organic farming successful in the state and also emphasized the farmers to utilize their fallow land with adopting proper cropping system using the improved production technologies under NICRA programme. He urged the farmers to adopt every organic practice in time for effective and successful outcome.

Dr.  Raghvendra  Singh,  Sr.  Scientist  (Agronomy)  and  Programme  Coordinator (I/c), KVK East Sikkim highlighted different activities under NICRA Project at Nandok during last 4 years. He also made aware of the effect of climate change in the  crops  and  asked  the  farmers  to  implement  every  possible agricultural technology for a profitable venture in the region and advised the farmers to participate actively in NICRA sponsored programmes.

Scientist (Plant Breeding) Shri C. Kapoor briefed about suitable climate resilient rice varieties in agro-climatic conditions of Sikkim. KVK (Ranipool) Prog. Asstt (Soil Sc), Shri Boniface Lepcha interacted with the farmers related to the most significant problems and their relevant solutions.

Mr. Umakant Sharma, Panchayat President, 29 Nandok Saramsa GPU expressed his happiness towards the endeavors put forth by  KVK East Sikkim with different climate resilient agricultural technologies  in the village. He further ensured moreand  better  corporation  on behalf  of  the  farmers  towards  the organization  in carrying out all agricultural activities for the welfare of farming community.

Subject Matter Specialists Dr. J.K Singh (Plant Breeding) Dr. N. Johnson Singh (Plant  Protection), Ms Anushree  Gogoi,  Prog.  Asstt  (Home  Sc)  shared  their information on their respective fields.

Mr. T. Khawas and Miss Lalita Rai SRFs NICRA coordinated the programme. The progamme was brought to an end by vote of thanks by Mr. Tezoshi Khawas.
