Innovation on Traditional Biopesticide (Kit Nimontrok) by the tribal farmer in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

B) Achievements
1) Details of innovation developed: The biopesticide developed is known as Kit Nimontrok in local language. The utility of this biopesticide is to control gundhi bug infestation in paddy.

Description of the technology:
Materials required:
The main materials required for its preparation are Cow urine – 10 litres, Neem leaf – 2 kg, Custard apple (Attafal)leaf- 1 kg, Dry Tobacco leaf– 1 kg , Akon – 0.5 kg and Dhatura leaf – 0.5 kg.

Procedure:

  • Chopped or smeared all the leafy materials
  • Put in an earthen pot with cow urine
  •  Mixed well all the materials with cow urine
  • Stirred well
  • Keep the earthen pot inside the soil
  • Cover the lid of the pot with cloth and tied
  • Cover it with earthen lid
  • Keep it for 21 days
  • Take out the liquid mixture and dilute @ 0.5 litre in 10 litre of water
  • Spray to control Gundhi bug

2) Practical utility of innovation:

I.Economic viability/Feasibility: It is economically and environmentally viable bio pesticide and which can be made from locally available materials and very much effective for control of Gandhi bugs in paddy.
II. Increasing productivity and sustainability and applicability of the innovation: Timely apply the biopesticide(Kit Nimontrok) in the paddy field can control gundhi bugs to larger extent results increase in the crop productivity. These innovation not required more expenditure and man power. It is accepted by most of the farmers in the locality.
III. Resource conservation and resource management: Easy to prepared in remote area and can be prepared from easily manageable materials. It is eco- friendly to the environment.
IV. Saving of resource input: Time , money saving
V. Scope of bringing change in management practice Crop/Animals/Horticulture:
1. Farmers can prepared very easily and help in controlling gundhi to large extent.
2. Easily acceptable by the farmers.

3) Extent of publicity of his/her innovation contribution/success story etc:This innovation was practicing by him since two year and till now it is adopted approximately around 55 nos. of farmers. The perception of the innovation by the farmers   was good because it is new technology and the method of preparation is very easy with the locally available materials.
