ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills, conducted awareness programme on “Importance of deworming and mineral supplementation in livestock”

An awareness programme on “Importance of deworming and mineral supplementation in livestock” was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR, West Garo Hills in Rimrangpara and Marapara villages on 7th and 10th December 2018 respectively under the project “National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)”. Livestock plays an important role in the economy of the Garo Hills and is the most promising activity to contribute to the livelihood and nutritional security of the rural families in terms of protein. Due to parasitic infection and mineral deficiency, growth rate of the different animals is very poor and as a result farmers are not getting desired output level from them. So, it is very much essential to follow proper deworming schedule. But, deworming and mineral mixture supplementation in animals is not practiced by the Garo farmers. Parasitic infection causes economic losses resulting from reduced growth and reduced fertility. So, the awareness programme was conducted to make aware the farmers to follow the deworming schedule in animals along with the supplementation of mineral mixtures. A total of 33 nos of farmers (mostly women farmers) from Marapara, Rongbokgre, Sanengre, Bagugre, Mebonpara villages participated in the programme. Mineral mixtures and dewormers were also distributed among the participants during the programme.
